- Schutzhund is a three levels, three phases dog sport that was
developed in Germany in the early 1900s.
- The literal translation from German to English of the word "schutzhund"
(protection dog) is quite misleading. A schutzhund dog is more than a
protection dog. A schutzhund dog is tested for the traits necessary for
police-type work such as intelligence, courage, trainability, strong desire
to work, agility, strength, endurance, and scenting ability.
- Before to be able to compete in a Schuzhund Trial, the dog must pass a
temperament test and an obedience evaluation called BH ("Begleithund
Pruefung" which means "traffic-sure companion dog test").
