Research Interests

I am a marine biogeochemist and a microbe hunter. I am generally interested in environmental factors controlling marine microbial communities
structure and function. So far I have focused my research on the trace metal iron but I am developing interest in other environmental factors which are
also playing an important role in the World Ocean (nutrient bioavailability, intercellular communication, etc). Currently, my research work consists in
monitoring the distribution of harmful algae and their toxins in the San Francisco estuary and in characterizing the environmental variables that control
    toxin production in this system.
